Not For Weak Stomach (Ken's Update)

Well its not that bad, but just wanted to give a warning before I gave Ken's update. For those who don't know, Wednesday Ken went to the doctor because he had huge bump on his stomach surrounded by a softball size red swollen ring. Obviously not just a mosquito bite. You might remember the "spider bite" he had earlier this year. Doc said it was another round of Staph, which we suspected and was placed on two antibiotics with orders to come back friday to have it lanced.

Yesterday he went back and the doctor went ahead and numbed the spot...well Ken said he could feel everything so I'm not exactly sure what happened there. Then doc lanced it and opened it to let it drain...I told you not for the weak stomach...and then packed it with an antibiotic gauze. He has to keep this in until Monday. And he is working 11 hour days in the 100 degree heat all weekend. I don't know if he'll really ever get rid of the infection, we just treat the spots when they come up.

Quick Update...

Brody woke up around 11:00 last night with a massive dirty diaper.. We quickly changed his sheets, and him, gave him some juice and Motrin and he was out. He slept until 4:00!! We got up and had a piece of toast and more juice. He's holding it down and crawling and climbing all over the place!!!! God is so healing!

Here he is around 5:00 this morning watching Elmo with his two favorite things, Elmo and a ball.

Update on Brody

First of all, we want to say a HUGE thanks to all of the prayers, calls, and concerns over Brody today. It has been a long day, one that is probably not over yet. But the worst is most likely over.

Second of all, I want to remember today's events so I am writing most of them down in this blog. If you don't want to read through all of it, scroll down and look at the pics. I love his Looney Tunes gown. Ha!

We got up around 4:00 and got everyone ready and headed out of the door around 5:15. They took us all back around 6:30. We got him changed and waited for the Anesthesiologist to come by and give him some "happy" medicine. He told us they were going to give him gas through a mask and then start an IV to take him deeper into sleep. They had to put a breathing tube in because of the abdominal work on his hernia. No. I was not prepared for all of that. I really thought it would be like tubes. A walk in the park. Not even close. I have to stop and say that we are VERY fortunate to have such a healthy little boy. With Pfieffers, there are many things that can happen and he seems to only have the mildest symptoms.
Okay...on to the surgery...
Then they took him back around 7:15, called us at 7:45 and said he was under and they were starting.About 9:15, they called back to say his feet were done and they were moving on to his belly. Around 10:00 they told us he was in recovery and we got to see him shortly after. He was still hooked up to the IV. I have to admit I was so nervous, still am. I feel so helpless.
We came home around 12:00 and he went straight to sleep until about 2:30. From here on out it was pretty much the same thing...sleep, wake up, SCREAM, cry, sleep, wake up, SCREAM, cry, sleep...you get the picture. I still don't know if he's fully out from under the effects of the anesthesia but hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. He managed to drink some juice, so later we moved him to milk, a few bites of toast and eggs. About two hours later, it all came back up. But since then, he immediately CRASHED OUT in our bed. So I'm guessing his tummy was upset most of the afternoon. Thank goodness he got some relief...to bad that relief went all over Ken's shirt.

You can tell Brody is thrilled about being up so early...

Brody was waiting to get his happy medicine.

Looks pretty happy already doesn't he? Very short lived ha!

After medicine, cuddling with Ken watching Reading Between the Lions.

Post surgery ride home...look at those sweet feet!

Literally minutes after getting sick all over Ken...completely knocked out!

Again, thank you for all of the calls and prayers. We are touched at how many people care for Brody and our family.

Prayer Request

Just asking for everyone's prayers tonight and in the morning over Brody and our family. He is having surgery on both feet and his abdomen in the morning. Ken went to the doc today for a staph infection and is having it lanced Friday. Please pray for me who will be "mending the broken" alone this weekend, with both sets of grandparents out of town and Ken working all weekend...yes with an open, lanced wound. YUCK!!!!!

3rd Annual Crawfish Boil (VERY LATE!!)

As usual, I am late again on posting. I have to say this is by far the busiest summer I've had in a long time! A couple of Saturdays ago (June 5th) we had family and friends over for a crawfish boil. Normally, we have this for my birthday (in May) but the weather just did NOT cooperate!

Despite the date change, the weather was AMAZING!! Cloudless sky and cool temps. Wonderful!

Ken did a great job cooking the crawfish...don't you just want to pick one up!

Lauren did...

Michael relaxes...

Emily Kay would rather eat the pool...

Sweet Baby Jude...sigh...PRECIOUS!!

Jude took a dip...

Brody wants the crawfish

We LOVE the sprinker ball EK gave Brody for his Bday!

My MIL made these glasses for all the kids! Too cute!

Pretty Emily Kay

After the boil, we headed out to the Flowood Family Festival. Brody calling up EK wondering where she is...HA!

Too cool for school! Notice the long sleeves...it was soooo cold that night!
The boys having fun...

Design Drama!

Okay...so here it is: I found this comforter set for WAY less...I mean like almost 70% off...and I have NO business getting but I have it...so moving on..

I have not been loving my bedroom since we moved in this house, but being 8 months preggo and on bed rest, I wasn't exactly in the "decorating" mood. I always thought I would have so much time during the 8 weeks of maternity leave...HA HA HA!!!!

So...18 months later...here I am with a new comforter set and blank khaki walls. I want YOUR advice on what color to paint the walls. My first instinct is to paint the walls a chocolate brown since the comforter is so light. I don't want it to be a dungeon...but really we are only in their to sleep.

What are your thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Summer Time Fun!

Summer has officially begun! School ended Friday and the weather was perfect all weekend! The only thing missing was Ken. But I think Brody had fun anyway. Saturday morning, Brody, Lauren and I went to the Ag Museum to celebrate Bryce's fourth birthday. Still can't believe that baby is four! After the party and a good three hour nap, we headed to my parents house to let Brody swim.
Brody and my dad (Papa)
I think Brody was more interested in Papa's glasses than swimming...

Stylin'

Ken joined us later for dinner. Brody refused to leave Ken's side Saturday and Sunday night. He is definitely old enough to know when his daddy has been missing for awhile. Ugh!

Sunday, we slept in and then hit the kiddie pool.
Brody LOVED it!

Lunch break...and on to a nap

Brody...wanting a hug from mamma...can you see how sleepy he was?
Baby boy ate two bites and crashed out!

Back outside to the pool for the rest of the afternoon...

Ken came home and once again...Brody didn't leave his side!

Love this pic of Brody and Bailey...wondering who's getting the ball first!
