I Know He's Listening

Yesterday was the last of Brody's surgeries for this summer. I have been quite anxious about the whole thing. It's very frustrating to have doctors tell you how routine the procedure is and its "no big deal". I'm sorry. But to a momma, well this momma, it is a very big deal. That's my baby you are working on. I wish doctors would tell me what to expect. I am very much a planner. I like to know exactly whats going to happen and what I can expect when I see him.

I did not expect to see him look the way he did after surgery yesterday. This time, I did not get the calls after each step, so we didn't find out about everything until he was in recovery. Again, not my favorite. I like to know what's going on with my kid. But, I do have to say. The doctor's do know what they are talking about, I guess my complaint is just that they remember I have NO idea what they are talking about. I just know that is my kid and I love him more than anything in this world.

So case in point. I was nervous and have been nervous about the surgery all week. Wednesday night we put him down at normal time and prayed for the Lord to be with him and the doctors in the morning. I prayed so hard that he would give me strength. I prayed he would give the doctors wisdom, steady hands, and patience (with me). I prayed that he would heal Brody quickly as the last surgery took some time.

He listened.

We took Brody to the hospital at 5:30. They brought us back around 6:30 for the usual questions, doc visits and explanations, etc. Doc said procedure should only last 20 minutes. Okay. I can do this. Unless there is more blockage and then they will insert tubes. Tubes...okay...like tubes in his ears...we got this...no big deal. Each tube would take an additional 30 minutes per ear. 20 min + 30 min + 30 min...okay about an hour an a half. I can do this. They took him from me at 7:00. Called us at 7:30 to tell us he was asleep and they were getting ready to start. Deep breath. 8:00...no call. 8:30...no call. 9:00...no call.

Okay, must have had to do tubes. 9:30, nurse comes out. I immediately grab all of Brody's stuff running to her to go see him. Nope. We'll come get you in a little while. He's fine (he's fine? I can hear him screaming all the way out here!) We just want to prepare you for how he looks. How he looks? Basically he looked like he had been beat up in the face. Not as bad as those plastic surgeries you see on tv. Just swollen eyes and nose, and a bloody nose. We got to see him around 10:00 and stayed with him until almost 12:00.

Doc came in and told us about the procedure. He said it went great and we could cancel our appointment for the next day (today). He said the did insert tubes because there was too much blockage and the tubes would let the duct heal open instead of closing up with scar tissue. Here's the kicker: They are real tubes. They go from his tear duct down the inside of his nose. He sutured them to his nose. And they come out. Hopefully they will come out when the doctor takes them out, but in most cases the kids pull them out themselves. Either through their eye or their nose. WHAT?!!!?? Seriously! Anyways...we'll just hope for the best with that one.

We came home and he got sick twice. I prepared myself for a long afternoon said a prayer and within 30 minutes Brody was climbing all over the place. Throwing his ball with Bailey, laughing, singing to Elmo. We didn't have this speedy of a recovery with ear tubes.

He listened. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you for listening!

Brody on the way to the hospital.

Waiting for the doctor.

Happy 18 Months~Milestones

Brody turned 18 months last Thursday with the official birthday biscuit and all. He had his checkup Wednesday and this by far, was the BEST visit we've had since he's been born! I walked out of doc's office GRINNING like a fool. I was just so proud!

Stats: Weight: 23.12 lbs (20%), Height 32.75 in. (55%) ...can never remember the head measurement but he was in the 87%...starting to grow in to that head! I was surprised at his weight percentile. The boy is SO HEAVY! I just don't see how the average boy weighs more than him but doc says he's healthy so no worries.

Milestones:

  • WALKING!!!!
  • standing from seated position
  • can point to his (get ready its a lot) head, nose, eyes, ears, mouth, hand, foot, belly.
  • Can show the sign for touchdown (putting hands up in the air)
  • can show me how big he is by holding his hands out wide.
  • can do the motions to Itsy, Bitsy Spider and If You're Happy and You Know It
  • sings along to Elmo's Song
  • can blow and kiss good bye complete with sound effects
  • gives high fives
  • will give a kiss and and hug on request.
  • can say: momma, bye-bye, hey (more like Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey), daddy, bay-bay (bailey), juice, thank you (more like uh uh) but he says it almost every time you give him something, uh-oh.
  • shakes his finger at Bailey and says un uh!
  • when we count to three he tells me two.
  • had hernia and toe surgeries on each foot June 18th, 2009
  • will have tear duct surgery July 23rd, 2009

Likes:

  • watermelon...yes folks you read correctly a FRUIT!!
  • green beans
  • Elmo
  • his stuffed puppy that sings
  • books
  • showing off his new skills
  • Bailey
  • Mommy and Daddy
  • bath time
  • watching the big kids at daycare play
  • his Lala (Lauren)
  • giving hugs
  • nap time

Dislikes:

  • being left alone...still number one
  • when we drop him off somewhere...but we hear he stops crying by the time we get in the car.
  • fruit...other than watermelon and the occasional banana at his ME's house.
  • being told no-no.

*have I mentioned how much I LOVE this kid!!!*

Happy Anniversary!!

Today is not only Brody's 18 month bday (scroll down for that post), but it is also our anniversary. Ken and I have been married for 4 years today and have been together for 9 years. Crazy!!! I am cooking him one of the first dinners I ever made for him and one of his faves: Poppyseed Chicken. Then my wonderful MIL is keeping him while we go see The Proposal. Has anyone seen it yet? Did you like it?

I woke up to find a card from Ken on the counter. So sweet! I also was thinking really hard today about something personal I could get for him...yes, I know...very last minute, but we've been a little pre-occupied with Hand, Foot, and Mouth over here. He's been wanting a picture of Brody for his desk at work. So this is what I came up with during nap time:

Let me know what you think...

Fast Healing

Please take a second and say a prayer for quick healing for my sweet baby boy. I took him to the doc yesterday on a mama's instinct...no fever, but crazy drooling and no appetite. Sure enough, he has a summer virus that mimics Hand, Foot, and Mouth. The blisters showed up this morning. I can see them on his tongue, gum, and lip. But he's coughing a lot, so it makes me think they are down his throat too. I don't think the virus lasts too long, but you can tell he's uncomfortable. The doc also thinks he has an ear infection so we're on Augmentin for that and Tylenol with Codeine for his throat.

Thanks!!!

Fourth of July Weekend~Part 3 and 4

We have had a busy weekend! Saturday we spent the day at two cookouts...one at my in-laws and one with friends at the O'Banions. Brody was not in the best mood and only took a short nap, needless to say, not many pictures were taken. But I'll post what I have anyways.

This is a pic of my sister-in-law, Elizabeth, and her baby, Ryan, who is a day younger than Brody. Isn't he so cute!!!

And here is me and the little stinker before even leaving the house. I guess I should've known from the look on his face it wasn't going to be a good day. Oh well, we all have our days.

Yup..that's really it. We had a blast, but baby boy was all I could handle for the day! We got home around 8:30, put Brody to bed, and sat on the patio and watched the fireworks. Nice end to a long day!

Sunday, we skipped church (I know, I know) but we were exhausted! We layed around the house pretty much most of the morning, and then after Brody's nap headed over to my parents house for some Bar-B-Que. It was yummo! All in all, it was a great four days of 4th of July events! Happy 4th yall!!!

Fourth of July Weekend~Part 2

Yesterday (Friday), Ken had the day off. Yes. You heard right. A day off!! We were supposed to go on a beach trip with the DeLoach's but Brody still does not have the all clear for getting in water so we cancelled it for this year. Anyhoo...Ken's wonderful parents kept Brody so Ken, me, and Lauren could go out on the boat. We had so much fun!

After the boat trip, we picked up Brody and got ready for dinner and the balloon glow. We ate yummy Bar-B-Que at Pig Skin with the DeLoach's. We met the Kirks at the balloon glow. I love how cute Brody and Emily Kay are together! They would just stop and kind of check each other out. So funny!

What boy?

Oooohh...that boy...

Hey....look at me

That's what I'm talking about!

Kim, me, and Brody

Bryce watching the balloons

EK watching the balloons. She was SO good at the Balloon Glow!
They were so much bigger than I thought they would be...very neat to see.

After a concert by Diamond Rio...they did a fireworks show.

The boys were mesmerized.

Fourth of July Weekend~Part 1

Today, Brody and I were invited to a play date at Molly's. I have to say what a HUGE difference it is this year with all of the babies...ahem...toddlers. A few less pictures to say the least.

I love it! Emily Kay and Ella Katherine (seen climbing out in the background) just dove in clothes and all!

Tyler loves to swim too!

Ella Katherine says, "Who needs a swimsuit!"
